Gary Jones

Sadly, Gary Jones passed away, suddenly, in February 2023.

Gary joined our group in the autumn of 2018 and his lovely 45mm layout was a joy to visit when he and his pet tortoise, Torchy, hosted events for our group. He had constructed some quite sophisticated signalling and track controls for his track powered engines. He bought his live steam Roundhouse Billy in 2019 and which he subsequently modified to include a bunker, optional tender, lights and track magnets to operate his signalling.

He was an enthusiastic member of the group who attended our garden railways meetings regularly. He was always keen to take photos of our trains and engines and share them through our website. During the periods when we could not meet, due to the covid lockdowns, he contributed to our online activities and he always kept us up to date with the developments he was making on his line.

Gary will be remembered for his friendly personality and his offers of assistance to other members whenever he could, and he will be sadly missed at our future garden railway events.

Our condolences go to his family and friends.
