Railway : Rheilffordd Pen-Y-Llyn


Time : 12:00 noon onwards

Location : Llanarmon between Pwllheli & Criccieth

Your Hosts are : Ray and Brenda Waters


Rheilfford Pen-y-Llyn is a 45mm gauge line with continuous running and shunting facilities and is a ground level railway. The steam up bay is at a raised height of approximately 800mm above ground level and is gained via a rack railway assisted slope. There is now also a ground level "railing siding".

The line has a minimum track radius of 4ft 6ins at the points but with 6ft radius on the main line. The loading gauge clearances are 165mm width and 180mm height. There is no track power on this line. There are variable gradients on this line with a maximum slope of approximately 1:30. A short section of 32mm gauge line is also modelled with a mixed gauge interchange siding.

Light refreshments and a buffet will be available and, should they wish to, visiting Members are invited to make a donation to The British Heart Foundation.

Visiting locomotives and rolling stock belonging to Members of the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers are welcome.

Following ‘negotiations’ with the ‘mining company’, and, after the completion of the company’s ore-haulage for the day, the CONSOLIDATED SHALES RAILWAYS HISTORICAL SOCIETY is pleased to invite visiting locos and rolling stock belonging to members of the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers to run on the 45mm Gauge CONSOLIDATED SHALES HEAVY-HAUL RAILWAY.


Light Refreshments and a Buffet will be available.

Any donations received will be forwarded to YNYS MON and GWYNEDD MIND.

Railway : The Lazy Days Railway

The Lazy Days Railway is a 45mm gauge line with continuous running and shunting facilities and is raised above ground level by approximately 400mm for about half of its length and is at ground level over the rest of the line. There is no track power in use on this line.

Light refreshments and a buffet will be available and visiting Members are invited to bring along complimentary food to share.

Visiting locomotives and rolling stock belonging to Members of the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers are welcome.

The Sling and Lavan Tramway will be running regular steam train services on the afternoons of the first Tuesdays of each month during May, June, July, August and September 2018. These will be subject to the weather conditions, domestic requirements, planned events that may be held by other Group Members and any other unplanned line closures. If you are likely to be in the area on one of these mid-week train afternoons and would like to call in for a leisurely cup of tea and a chat, or would like to bring something along to run on the line, then please contact Mike Barton a day or two beforehand to check the line is open and to let him know that you're coming by telephoning him on 01248 600662 or by email at mctbarton@tiscali.co.uk .
